Vocational rehabilitation has a home maker program you could take advantage 
of.  If you live in a smaller town, locate the agency for the blind in the 
nearest large city and they will be most happy to assist you.  There are 
answers to all your home making questions blind people have already figured 
out.  You mustn't sell yourself short.  Truly a nursing home is not where 
you belong.  For example, the answer to your vacuuming question is this:  We 
do miss spots while mopping or vacuuming, however, we vacuume more often and 
succeed in covering the spots we miss the first time.  Why, I have a blind 
sister-in-law who use to use a ringer washer when she was a girl.  Now, that 
is something I have never done, and will probably never do.  But, I know 
blind people who have learned, so I know even that task isn't impossible for 
a blind person to accomplish.  you are never to old to just get out there 
and try.  With a little encouragement, supervision, and guidance you can 
achieve whatever you set your mind to do.
