Lelia,
Is food your family's love language? If it is, then you are
definitely fighting an uphill battle. You may have to be a pioneer
here in finding other ways to assure your family of your love without
the food attached. I heard Dobson say once that food is one of the
hardest things to deal with because it is so imbedded in the positive
parts of our life. Did you get an A on your test? Great! Let's go
get ice cream to celebrate! Did you loose weight? Great! Let's go
out for dinner to celebrate! Company is coming. Let's have turkey
with all the trimmings, and I do mean all!! See, it's hard to get
around. Did your feelings get hurt. Here, have a cookie and some
hot chocolate. It will help you feel better. It's all around
us. Fighting it is almost like fighting our culture itself, but we
are killing ourselves with kindness and pats on the back instead of
finding more meaningful, albeit not as easy, ways to say we care.
