Sharon,
I went into Denny's with Grace, and had brought with me some rice pancakes
to substitute in their Grand Slam Breakfast. The waitress said they were
not allowed to let their customers bring in food, but when I told her we
were "allergic" to wheat, she got the manager, and he was very cooperative.
I think it is important to buy something, though, to pay their "table rent."
If they really don't have anything you can eat, you can offer to pay a cover
charge, and I bet they'll change their attitude! Hey, we're worth it!
Have I missed something? Is there something risky about drinking brewed
coffee at a restaurant?
One who left the restaurant with morale intact, and tummy full,
Susan Owens
PS. My biggest oops is, down here in Texas-land, I forget that if you don't
warn them ahead, they'll bring your mashed potatoes to you dripping in white
gravy!
(You should have seen my face twelve years ago when I first ordered a steak
sandwich in Texas and got something back that looked like soup! Underneath
the sea of white were some very drippy french fries. Ugh.)
