You mean, press the star or right-mouse key. (Slash, beside it, is the JAWS
left-mouse key.) Sometimes it isn't worth wasting time allowing pop-ups one
knows one does not want.
I don't think it's always the case that there are pop-ups blocked on such
sites, either. one of the alleged bug fixes in JAWS10 involved the New York
times home page not freezing when opening any more. It still takes quite a
long time to open, and I have allowed pop-ups for it. While a page is
opening like that, focus is gone. usually, focus issues with screen readers
are the problem, when this sort of thing happens.

It is not JAWS. It is your security settings with your browser or your virus
protection blocking the page from being opened. You can fix this by enabling
Pop Ups or if you do not want to do this, you can get around it by:

Pressing JAWS key+minus key,

Up arrow to where you hear 'pop up blocked ...'

Press slash

Down arrow through the options and continue as prompted.

Good luck!

Subject: [VICUG-L] Occasional Unresponsive IE Links and Jaws

Hi All,

I've worked with a number of versions of Jaws and Internet Explorer, and
I've noticed this problem in all of them. I'm wondering what's happening and
how to resolve it when it comes up.

the problem is that every once in a while pressing enter on a link does not
activate it. That is, the new page does not come up; the file does not open;
or whatever is supposed to happen does not happen. In these cases, pressing
enter results in a soft pop, similar to the sound you hear when you stop a
device before safely removing it.

Most of the time, I'm able to activate the link by placing the PC cursor
somewhere in the middle of the link, routing the Jaws cursor to the PC
cursor, and using the Jaws mouse button (ins+numpad /). Occasionally,
however, this doesn't work.

There isn't any real consistency about it. It just sort of happens sometimes
and not others. Because I hear the click when I hit enter, I think something
specific is happening, but because I haven't been able to isolate any common
factors, I don't know what is causing it.

Any ideas?

Ciao
