This is one of the biggest problems I have. Eating out. I've been on a
cows milk-free diet for a little more than 10 years due to a severe milk
allergy. It doesn't matter how much time I spend explaining that I am
allergic and can't have any thing with milk. I've found that with the
exception of the most expensive places, the waiters either don't care or
aren't bright enough to understand things like their garlic bread is
buttered, so they shouldn't put it on my plate.
This recently happened, and I sent the food back. I suspect the bread was
tossed onto the plate and removed by the waiter the second time, because
in the next few days I got multiple canker sores...my usual reaction to
traces of milk.
Because of this sort of thing, I usually don't like eating out, and only
feel relatively safe eating Chinese or Japanese food...since when its
authentic, there's typically no milk around.
