Walt,
A clothes stick is a piece of wood about three feet long, with one rounded
end, and split into a fork at the other end. It was used back in the days
when clothes were submerged in boiling water to get them clean. You pushed
a pice of clothing into the forked end of the stick, dunked it into the
boiling water, and removed it. Obviously, you didn't want to stick your
hands into the water, so you used the stick.
