Nope, the a and b bands can be in totally different bands. I have had my 
thf6 now, better than 5 years, it's had a lot of hours on it. What I don't 
understand is, I still have the original battery. I was using that and that 
only until a few months ago when I got  a spare finally. I have had the AA 
holder but now I have a spare rechargeable as well.
