Butch,
The cheapest really accessible way to go is Trekker for around $1695 new. IT
works reasonably well, has several hotkeys for common inquiries like address,
satellite reception, altitude, etc. It has a browse mode, as well as a vehicle
and pedestrian mode.
WIth this system, if you are on the bus, it automatically announces your
cross-streets.
You might hold off a bit, though, I know you are unhappy with the StreetTalker,
and it certainly has a ways to go from what I saw of version 1. But, FS is
releasing version 2 which claims to be improved. So, maybe you could take a
look at it before you spring for a different system.

Subject: talking gps?
I am interested in some sort of talking gps system. Wondering what is
available, what price, how it works and so forth. I have a pac mate and
the software, which needs to be reinstalled. I'm getting the run around
getting the registration keys from Freedom. After this lack of customer
service, I really don't want to buy from them if I can help it, so
wondering what else might be out there. What version of destinator is
needed for the pac mate and so forth? Reply off list if you wish.
Thanks
Butch
