Palm oil (as opposed to palm *kernel* oil) is very similar to coconut oil.
It is also more "paleo" in that it's pretty easy to squeeze the oil out
the fruit, quite a lot easier than extracting oil from coconut copra,
actually.
Palm *kernel* oil comes from the same plant, but the oil is extracted
from the seed rather the flesh of the fruit and is therefor a much more
"processed" substance.
I have not found very much health-related information on either of these
oils, aside from their basic composition which indicates similarity to
coconut oil.
Palm oil (red palm oil or dendê oil) is /the/ traditional cooking oil
where I live (Bahia, Brazil).
