hello,
thanks to everyone who put up with my complaining about muscle
stiffness and suggested I get a diagnosis. I'm going to see Dr.
Charles Silberstein of the orthopedic outpatient clinic Thursday
morning. I talked with the nurse and explained I do not have a
diagnosis, but when she heard I was a preemie with delayed development
(I walked late and walked on my toes for a while) she said that the Dr.
evaluates preemies as well. I wanted to make sure that he wouldn't be
angry at me for wasting his time if it turned out that my only problem
is being out of shape. She said it was appropriate to see him.
At least this way, it will be over with soon, one way or the other. I
already think Kennedy Krieger is going to help me more than the PTs
I've seen thus far. She asked if I had any x-rays done and I said no.
Then I started wondering to myself, I wonder why not, since 2 PTs told
me I'm walking out of alignment, and one blamed bone structure, and
then said there was nothing I could do about it except stretch.
4 PTs have failed so far because I can't do the stretching they
proscribe. It pretty much renders me immobile. Maybe I'm just so out
of shape that I can't stretch much, but I have tried to be very, very
careful and never stretch to the point of pain. The last straw was the
PT last Friday assuring me that the stretches wouldn't hurt, and - well
- although I did a lot less than he said to do, they hurt!
thanks for all of your support. If you don't mind, I'll let you know
what the outcome is.
Mary Katherine
