1. Open my computer; highlight your disk drive.
2. On the general tab, you can tab and see the disk cleanup button. Run this
first to delete unnecessary temporary files.
3. Next, go to the tools tab by control tabbing. Here, there are two things
you may want to do.
A. First, check the drive in question for errors.
b. Defrag the drive; which might allow files to be accessed a bit quicker.
4. I also think access is slower because you probably have more running
processes now than you used to. Often, when you install programs, they like to
start in the background even if you don't use them.
It is too complex to discuss here, but you can go into your msconfig and set it
to selective start, and only check those programs you need like your speech
program, anti-virus program, etc.
