Subject: Re: update on switch to Office 2007

Hi Jeff.

Yes, the patch is JAWS version 8.0.1163, or 8.0.1177, or 8.0.2107. By the
way, I have things that I like and dislike about the last two. JAWS
8.0.1177 broke support for 16 Bit apps like the Icom programming software,
which was fixed in JAWS 8.0.2107, but 8.0.2107 broke reading of active
appointments on the Outlook 2003 Calendar (I haven't tested it with Outlook
2000 or Outlook XP as I've already abandoned these versions).

Looking at the technical bulletins from GW Micro, things aren't completely
smooth sailing with Windows Vista or Office 2007 over there, either, but
they got on their feet a lot more quickly. I may be all wet, but I suspect
that the problem that Freedom Scientific is having is in the way they
sample information to be spoken. I suspect that they have a more difficult
challenge in trying to get JAWS to read Vista properly, and still maintain
backwards compatibility to older operating systems. I think they are doing
a lot of tweaking to get all of that to work, and I bet it is a busy time
for their scripters down there.
