i didn't catch the beginning of this thread, but upgrading to Vista 
would never be presented as an update because you have to buy it.  As 
for IE 7, it is not presented as a critical update, and automatic 
updates will not sneak it through without you knowing it.  Because of 
all the paranoia about IE 7, i resisted the temptation to upgrade for 
a long time, but I eventually took the plunge.  I have had no 
problems with it.  if you are using the latest version of your screen 
reader, you should not have any access issues.  Also, it has some 
neat features, including tab browsing, and the fact that you can use 
it as an RSS client. I find that  its FTP client is much improved over IE 6.
