Consider yourselves fortunate that 'starch' on a food label is always corn
starch in the U.S. In Canada 'starch' on a lable could be wheat starch,
corn starch, potato starch or any other kind of starch ever produced. Thus,
label reading gets pretty frustrating and we often must contact companies to
ask what type of starch has been added. We are lobbying the Canadian
government for better labelling laws, particularly laws which require
companies to name the type of starch as well as the source of the hydrolized
plant (vegetable) protein. Any comments from Europe or Australia re: your
labelling laws and how they can be revised?
