Jammeh gets excellence award
Written by Chief Ebrima B Manneh
Friday, 10 March 2006
The Atlanta chapter of the Alliance for Patriotic Reorientation and Construction (APRC) yesterday conferred on President Yahya Jammeh an award of excellence as a show of their appreciation and commitment to the APRC government.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, President Jammeh noted that he was glad to see that the Gambians in Atlanta have come to realise the truth, as the truth can never be hidden. He said he has always believed that “God will one day show Gambians in Atlanta the light and they will follow it”. According to him, the APRC Atlanta initiative should be a wake-up call for all Gambians who are still groping in the dark.
He congratulated the APRC Atlanta chapter through their representatives for the confidence they have in his leadership, noting that The Gambia belongs to all Gambians who would be wise to work together to make this country an example for humanity.
The Gambian leader rejected calls for the cancellation of the forthcoming elections, using an analogy to drive home his point. “There should be an election because if a mouse wants to wrestle with an elephant and the mouse insists on wrestling with the elephant despite persuasions not to do so, there is no need to cancel the bout. The only way for the mouse to respect the elephant is for the elephant to crush the mouse,” he said.
Sheikh Omar Faye, the Director of Press and Public Relations at the Office of the President, said the Atlanta chapter of the APRC has worked hard over the years to support the vision and the leadership of President Jammeh.
Dr Njogou Bah Senior, Assistant Secretary at the Office of the President and former Chairman of the APRC Atlanta chapter, who presented the award as well as the gift of APRC-inscribed T-Shirts and badges, said the award and the other T-shirts are in recognition of President Jammeh’s leadership and courage to eradicate poverty and improve the life of ordinary Gambians.
