I don't know if anyone can help me, but here goes.
I've been GF for nearly 3 years. I had a follow up scope done 18
months ago and my villi were healed. I was however, diagnosed with a
small bowel bacterial overgrowth. I took an antibiotic for 8 weeks
and have been supplementing with VSL#3 (a probiotic) since then. Not
sure if this is relevant info, but there it is.
My rheumatologist recently did a battery of blood tests to try to
work out what was causing my joint pain and swelling. My IgA was
elevated. He said it was because I had sprue and not to worry about
it. I am very strict with my diet and because I cook from scratch
with fresh fruit and veggies, there is no chance of gluten
contamination. Should I be worried?
Also, in April I had my Vitamin D levels checked and they were low. I
went onto high doses of Vitamin D for 6 months and included 30 min a
day in the sun. Last week I had the Vitamin D levels rechecked only
to discover that they had decreased by a third. Sprue is again
taking the blame.
Is it common for people with CD to have malasbsorption problems even
after the villi have healed?
