Haruna, with all due respect, yes it did ocme out the wrong way, and the only reason Clinton was
called the first "black President" was becuase he embodied certain stereotypical, I might add,
characteristics of black people and men in particular, i.e., could play the saxophone, cheated on
his wife, grew up poor, etc. I was reading something at a blog at
http://whataboutourdaughters.blogspot.com, so it seems, according to this blog, that not every
black person thinks of Clinton as the "first black President". If "blackness" is no longer about
descent, where someone comes from, if it's based on who can play the saxophone, who is cheating on
their spouse, ore more to the point, based on some sort of "culture" or because you act a certain
way or do certain things, well, does that make me black becuse I listen to R&B and Hip Hop? Just
to name one example.
I'm not taking anything away from people to define people how they want, but deeming someone black
because they cheat on their wife? I'm not black, but if I were, I think I'd be offended, heck, I
am offended by that and I'm not black!
Personally, I wonder how much of what you state as your opinions on here are really your opinions,
because I think most of the time, you just like to argue with people, just to get them worked up,
and then proceed to cut up their posts so much into little pieces that you make them into
something altogether different than what was originally said! The same person who would tell me
not to be afraid to comment on Gambian issues is the same person who will tell me to "sit down and
shut up" (because we all know that's what you were thinking), when we're talking about American
issues!
Gosh, I can't win for losin' can I? How many times was I told to "stick to your own issues", and
hey, we're talking about American politics aren't we? And then someone comes along and says "oh
you can't talk about that 'cause you're white!"
Just goes to show that if you try to make everyone happy, then you'renever going to be happy
yourself!
