I was listening to a guy preach many years ago. He referred to an
experience a preacher he had read about had many years before any of us were
born. I forget who this preacher was to whom he was referring but the old
preacher had started some type of a ministry but was very well known for
praying and getting his prayers answered. One day, the preacher, came home
to a house in which he lived, just renting a room. No one was supposed to
be home during the day so he stayed in the living room of the house and
began praying out loud. The land lady heard him and went to the door the
led into her living room to listen. This guy started praying quite loudly
and telling God he needed x amount of money for a very specific need related
to the ministry. Before long, the woman, she was a Christian, was horrified
because this man sounded like he was arguing with the Lord. He got louder
and louder. Finally he said, Lord, I'm not leaving this house until you
bring that money right here to me, and I mean it, too, Lord. I don't have
all day either because the money has to be here today. On and on like this,
the prayer went as the lady listened. The preacher got right down mad and
told the Lord as much. Finally, the preacher said, all right Lord. If you
aren't going to provide for me as you promised, you can kill me right here
where I stand right now. Suddenly, the preachers heart felt as if it
stopped and was going to explode. The preacher said, Oh, come on, Lord.
Can't you take a joke? A moment later, the woman heard some tires squealing
as if someone almost drove passed her house and suddenly stopped. A knock
came to the door and the preacher opened it. Preacher, the man said. I was
driving by when the Lord told me to stop and give you 300 dollars. Here it
is. The preacher spent time praising the Lord before he left with the exact
amount he had been asking God for.
