You can buy these items used which I am sure others on this list will tell
you how to go about this.
However, as a PT I strongly urge you to have Mary re-evaluated by a PT as it
seems as if she has had a change in physical status. The PT should be
experienced in obtaining adaptive equipment that encourages independence.
Your insurance with a letter of medical necessity written by a PT and
co-signed by a MD will help pay for any equipment. Also there are a few
clubs like the Lions', Rotary, or Elks clubs will pay for equipment if you
can prove to them that your insurance denied compensation/request. However,
if you do decide to go through the insurance route be careful because if you
purchase a jogger stroller or any other type of wheelchair it will be FIVE
years before your insurance will pay for another one. So choose wisely.
