    Thanks very much, Colin.

I may try what you suggest about putting a piece of thin tape over the mic 
element.

The other mods seem a bit too risky for my taste, unless I can get good 
sighted assistance over here.

Again, the folks I talk to say the extra hot audio is noticeable, but not 
objectionable.

So, I guess I can live with the problem if needed.

Thanks for your suggestion about the mic element, though.
