I will be showing a South African film, Hijack Stories, at the South
Madison Branch Library tomorrow, Saturday, February 11 at 1.30 p.m.

Released in 2000, Hijack Stories is the second feature film by Oliver
Schmitz, who directed the anti-apartheid gangster film, Mapantsula (1987).
Hijack Stories explores the story of Sox Moraka, a young actor from
Rosebank, an upscale neighborhood of Johannesburg and formerly exclusively
white area, who returns to his Soweto background to research for a role as
a gangster in a television drama. The film raises important questions
about class/social mobility in contemporary South Africa. I will lead a
discussion of the film after the viewing.

This is an Outreach event of the African Studies Program at UW-Madison.
The event is free and open to the public. I am attaching the flier
announcing the film from the Public Library.

Please come if you have the time.

Thank you,

Dean Makuluni
