Dear All,
In the UK, The Coeliac Society "List of Gluten-free Manufactured
Products" - commonly referred to as "The Food List" - contains the
following text at the start of the "Breakfast Cereals" section:
'Almost all brands of gluten-free breakfast cereals contain malt extract
or malt flavourings which are safe for Coeliacs.'
Two points spring to mind:
1. Have any of the UK subscribers to this list had bad experiences with
malt-containing breakfast cereals? (Even if not, please let me know
anyway).
2. Any non-UK subscribers may like to bear this in mind when visiting
the UK, bearing in mind the difficulties in checking ingredients when
somebody else is preparing the food, such as in a hotel or
guest-house. And of course, even a Coeliac-aware hotelier will
probably refer to "The Food List"....
Regards,
Martin Purbrook
p.s. Yes I know 'The Food List" is copyrighted, but I thought the text
was useful to this thread. I have no intention of disclosing the listed
items unless with prior written permission.
