Dear Listers,

Thankyou to everyone who wrote to me regarding hunger pain. It seems from your responses that this is common, and there were some good suggestions which might help others.
This is a great list and a comfort to be able to "talk" to others who have the same problem.

Below is a summary of the replies I received-

Hunger is a type 1 Diabetes symptom... 2 listers.[ I will be looking into this]

You might try increasing your protein
intake since that takes longer to digest than carbs... 3 listers

your hunger pains may be gas pains?...2 listers

I also had reflux and alot of that "empty" feeling was reflux I think. Some gf things aren't as "filling" as their wheat counterparts.

Your blood sugar goes way up at meal time and crashes way down soon after. That's when you feel ravenous. .

Are you getting enough fiber in the foods you choose?
It should be at least 25g/day--more is better.
To find the fiber content of a food, look on the package or
go to <www.calorie-count.com>
Shoot for 3g/serving size.
Balance low fiber foods with high ones (eaten at the same time).
