I always a bit reticent to talk about spam because Hotmail seems to do a
great job filtering it.

I was amazed to open an inbox of a friend while helping to set filters and
forwards and see the large amounts of junk she received! I try to help
fight spam by loading any junk I get into Hotmail's filtering system. I
would guess ComCast and other ISPs have spam blocking and filtering systems
and I encourage folks to spend time checking them and setting some comfort
level for yourself. I helped this person load filter settings and went
through her "junk mail" for a week adding its appropriate contents to this
local ISP's filtering system. I was surprised and pleased to see a marked
reduction in junk even over the course of a week.
Helping identify the sources seems to have an effect and I'm surprised by
this because common wisdom has been that spammers change adddresses so often
they can't be stopped.
