During that time when AVG 8 wasn't working well with JFW, I took the 
opportunity to try Avast from http://www.avast.com/. I ended up 
preferring it over AVG 7.5. I found it easier to use, the free version 
of Avast is more configurable than the free version of AVG, you get more 
malware coverage. and it seems to use less resources. I found a good 
mainstream review of AVG, Avira and Avast at 
http://internettourbus.com/Free_Faxing_Free_Security_Free_Wifi-A102008.html.

Note that I never did try AVG 8, and I'm not trying to rundown AVG (I 
used it happily for months if not years.). I'm just pointing out another 
option.
