I remember reading your original post on this subject, but couldn't for the
life of me, figure out how or why this could have happened. But yesterday,
I was called to a friend's house, and believe it or not, she had this exact
same problem.
After playing around with things, I noticed another strange thing happening.
She wanted some items deleted from her Favorites list, so I dropped down
into the operating system and deleted them directly from their appropriate
folders. But when I returned to Internet Explorer and brought up her list
of Favorites, there were the items I had already deleted!
I went back into the operating system and checked the Favorites directory
again, and sure enough, the items were indeed deleted. So what the heck was
going on?
It took me a while, but I finally figured out that the problem was that,
although she was the System Administrater on the system, and she was logged
in that way, the favorites and some other stuff were located in another
user's file, even there wasn't anyone else using her computer -- ever. Go
figure.
Anyway, the mystery was solved by logging her into the appropriate user
area, and moving the appropriate programs to where they should have been in
the first place.
I suspect this is what may have happened to you, too.
Best always,
-- George

Subject: [VICUG-L] you won't believe this folks, but it fixed itself!
Hi all,
Well, you all remember my computer (the Windows XP machine), not letting me
download anything on the internet.
Well, I turned it on today, and tried to download the newest audio file from
http://www.blindcooltech.com
and I pressed enter on the link, and what do ya know? The download dialogue
box pops up, like it is supposed to!
I have no idea folks, how it fixed itself, but the computer fixed itself. I
touched nothing, absolutely nothing!
Can't explain it. Anybody got a hunch how it might have done this?
Now I was listening to the latest main menu show from 30 May, and I did hear
the hard drive whirling a bit, so, who knows? Maybe xp was fixing itself,
then.
Hopefully, it's fixed for good.
Harry
