Even tho I am LI, I find "allergic" works best in restaurants. Only once  did 
I have to get nasty and ask the waiter if he preferred listening to me or  
having the paramedics there. Often, the waiter tries but the chef has an  
attitude.
I am also highly alcohol intolerant and that becomes a social issue as  well. 
Many otherwise educated people simply do not understand.
