John:
The R8 is configured to be a half wave vertical and has integral radials.
As a result of being a half wave, the ends of those radials are 'hot'.
Hence they need to be either out of reach or protected.
I have used one for 4-5 years now down at the sea, with moderate results,
although it is difficult to determine owing to poor propagation at the
bottom of the sunspot cycle.

In 2002 I was one of the operators on the Titanic Wireless Commemorative
Group station (GB90MGY) where we used an R8 for 40-10 and doublet for
80-160.

David

Subject: Cushcraft R8 Revisited

Since I do not have room for something like a G5RV or Carolina Windom I a=

m=20
thinking about a Cushcraft R8. I would prefer not to have ground radials=

,=20
that is why I am looking at the R8.
Any feedback would be helpfull.

Thanks
