Hi.

That would solve one of the worst problems that I had with the 706. I
might have to take a more serious look at the 7000... Don't get the idea
that I'm dumping the TS2000S, I just like to keep a backup rig, and so it
might actually free up my old Kenwood TS690S, which is a great rig, but
doesn't have 2 meters. Actually, if you just want 160 thru 6 meters, and
can find one of these radios with the VS2 voice synthesizer, and the AT450
installed, they are a great choice for blind operators. The AT450 is far
more forgiving than the newer auto tuners. It will swallow loads that the
tuner in the TS2000's auto tuner would pitch a fit at, and it is more
forgiving than the LDG and MFJ auto tuners, as well.

My only concern with these older radios is proprietary parts that fail and
are no longer supplied by the manufacturer, and I've heard some horror
stories about severe damage to radios like the TS450S, TS690S and TS850S
from aging litium battery that catastrophically fail and destroy the
circuit board in the process.
