Since I posted on here before about AVG, I found something to be quite
interesting. Coincidence maybe? You decide. I have been using free AVG
for a couple of years. In December, I started getting pop ups saying in mid
January, my free version would be outdated by the new 7.5 version. I let
January come and go with pop ups every other day reminding me. In February,
a pop up displayed my copy would expire on February 17 so I just kept using
it as is. On the 15th of February, AVG caught my first virus as an AVG
user. I found this quite interesting to say the least. I had planned on
buying the pro version anyhow because I wanted to be able to customize my
own settings. So, I downloaded it, installed, and ran it. It found 4
infected files. Odd, it had only detected 1 before but I figured, whatever
it was, it may have been trying to spread. I noticed it was in an HTML
file, according to AVG, and in the internet explorer sub directory. Three
files were disinfected and the problems moved to the AVG vault. Ok, but why
not the HTML file? By the way, it was a pop up type of deal that only
appeared when leaving internet explorer, the best I could tell, and it would
ask a single question which said, Do you think Bush is a good president?
And a couple of other harmless questions. It seemed not to effect any other
part of the hard drives I have. After a couple of days, I noticed the
morning auto scan wasn't indicating any viruses at all. The HTML file no
longer displayed as infected. So, it is this way. Two days before
expiration, I get this harmless virus. Two days after I buy the software
for a 2 year license, the viruses disappears. See? I told you it was
interesting. You don't suppose? No, that couldn't happen, could it? I
mean, they didn't? Naw, they wouldn't. Would they?

Phil.
