Hi Matt,

Well, if you do not mind QRP rigs, the Yaesu 817 is a little more than 500 
dollars.  I think I saw it for 549 dollars on one of the Internet 
sites--this is brand new.  It only has 5 watts, but you can get external 
amplifiers for the future--when you save up enough.

this is probably a long shot but, is there such a thing as an hf radio =
for under say, $500? the ones i have seen on hamradio.com are mostly =
over 5k.  ok maybe i should add "that are actually good radios" for =
under 500 say, maybe the price of a 2m mobile or something or should i =
just keep dreaming, i want to get on hf again but i don't see that =
happening with the prices i've seen
