John,

While it's certainly true that better and more content can be delivered,
that's not what's happening right now according to one friend of mine who
bought an HD radio.  It seems to me that right now, the broadcasters are
still trying to work kinks out of the system, so you may find that content
and service vary widely.  I suspect that's the reason for lack of
commercials.  I have no doubt that stations would run ads if they could, but
right now there just aren't that many people out there with HD receivers.
Perhaps in another two or three years, HD may be the way to go, but unless
you have that pioneering spirit (which I don't when it comes to new
technology), you may want to hold off for a while.  On the other hand, if
you're really curious, go for it!
