Lowell,
The Function button does different things depending on what mode
you're in. I don't remember all of them, but the most significant
one is that it toggles between three different functions when you're
measuring resistance. You can toggle between resistance, some sort
of diode or transistor checker, and a continuity checker which causes
the meter to beep when the probes are shorted together. I believe
that when you have the meter in DC volts, it will toggle between DC
and AC, although I'm not absolutely sure of that. I haven't tried it
in any other modes.
