Since I was a teenager, I have had a condition which I believe is an
autoimmunity, and might be called solar urticaria. I am wondering if anyone
else out there has it or knows anything about it, and if it is related to
autoimmune thyroid disease or vitiligo. The symptoms are, after exposure to
sun I develop an itchy rash, mostly on my arms. It looks like poison ivy, but
in miniature, and usually goes away in a few hours. I haven't had much luck
in getting information about it, although I was once told that it is common
in people with red hair or red highlights, and is an allergic reaction to the
pigment in your skin (but I don't get white patches like vitiligo). I have
one cousin who also gets it, and her father does have vitiligo. I have been
assured that it is not lupus by several doctors.
