I might as well toss in my bit on this one lol. There is nothing
inherently wrong with an alcoholic drink. There is however something
inherently wrong with an over indulgence to it where one is bagged. Now,
I, like Helen have seen my share of alcohol abuse in my family alone and
many of my dad's friends were as well, so I do understand that fear of
drink. However, having an alcoholic beverage does not equate to being
drunk. I think the many severe abuses of it today by folks has got
everyone jacked up to believe alcohol is automatically bad. In fact it
does have medical benefits, again, if not abused. That would include not
drinking constantly even if not bagged, one needs to let wisdom prevail.
If we are talking mind altering or spirit weakening substances we need
then to extend it to coffee, pain killers, cold medicines and anything
else that causes drowsiness or the opposite. And I understand yes, some
folks here may not drink coffee either, I am not one of those, I like
bean juice and I'll probably always will. The decaffeinated stuff just
does not taste the same. Anyway. I think we need to keep it in
perspective. Wine, or beer or an alcoholic beverage doesn't equate being
drunk, abuse of it is. I analogize it to a gun. A gun isn't inherently
bad, or good. It is neither. It is however an extension of one's heart
that makes it either bad or good. So people are afraid and they opt for
ridding guns, when in fact it is the abusers which ought be dealt with.

Cheers, *smile*

Kathy, I must agree with Helen on this one. I know the bible doesn't
teach directly against drinking, but it definitely teaches against
drunkenness. Where does one draw the line? Myself, I abstain,
completely. I believe the leadership of the early church either drank
very little or abstained because Paul told timothy to drink a little bit
for his stomachs sake, or medicinal purposes. We don't need alcohol for
medicine, now. And, I believe the alcohol content of alcoholic beverages
was far less in beverages then, than what it is, now. Plus, you have to
realize that part of Helen's disagreement comes from suffering, big time,
from alcohol abuse from those around her, for more years than she cares to
think about.

I strongly disagree with that statement, Kathy. The main thing wrong with
beer is the alcohol. Proverbs 25:28 He that hath no rule over his own
spirit is like a city that is broken down, and without walls. Alcohol
takes control over a man's spirit, so that he does not rule over
it..........but is totally open to Satan, the enemy of his soul, as the
city of ancient times with its walls broken down was open to its enemies.

I doubt that boycotts work all that well anyhow. Things like that
probably
help occasionally but I would bet if you could get a million Christians
praying about something every day, we would reap a greater harvest.
