Agency Mission & Description:
The mission of the New Mexico Commission for the Blind is to encourage
and enable
blind citizens of New Mexico to achieve vocational, economic and social
equality.
This is accomplished by removing limitations and erasing stereotypes
long imposed
upon the blind by themselves and by the public at large.
The New Mexico Commission for the Blind provides career preparation,
training in
the skills of blindness and above all, promotes and conveys the belief
that blindness
is not a barrier to employment, nor to living a full, meaningful life.
Purpose of Position:
To provide expert advice and support on computer hardware and software,
assistive
technology tools, training support, and Help Desk support to Commission
for the Blind
consumers.
Duties Include:
Duties of this position include but are not limited to:
Conducts technology evaluations of consumers, assesses needs and makes
recommendations of appropriate software and hardware technology tools,
configures and delivers computer systems, provides basic orientation on
technology tools upon delivery.  Works with school and employer IT
personnel to resolve assistive technology installation concerns.
Provides Help Desk support. May deliver group or one-on-one training.
Educational requirements:
An Associate's degree or  two-year college degree in Computer Science or
MIS (Please

Experience:
5 years of current experience in the various information technology
fields with hands-on
experience working with assistive technology for the blind and
visually-impaired.
Working Environment:
Work is performed indoors in a typical office environment.  Requires the
ability
to bend and reach when installing computer equipment and the ability to
lift typical
personal computers and peripherals.  Requires some in-state travel.
