from my experience most of the time this does not help. whenever i had forced the installation of drivers without xp detecting the device i have found that the drivers get installed somewhere BUT THE DEVICE JUST DOES NOT SHOW UP IN DEVICE MANAGER AND IS JUST NOT ACCESSIBILE.
