I understand why flax is non-paleo and not a 'whole food' and therefore more
easily ruined. Fish oils are equally as fragile as flax. I didn't mean to
bring attention to flax and fish oil rancidity, as that argument is well
discussed, but to the other omega-3 foods which we alter the natural state
of on a daily basis but do not often discuss the effects upon the omega-3
content within those foods. These foods that contain omega-3s are rarely
consumed in their ORIGINAL FORM before we eat them. flax oil and fish oil
have a VERY low temperature stability so why would the very same omega-3
PUFA that is in other omega-3 rich foods have any more stability than
flax/fish oil to the harsh conditions such as cooking, even if at low
temperatures? if low temperature cooking is too much for flax and fish oil,
why isnt it too much for fish, walnuts, grass-fed meats and organs, eggs
etc. The very same heat certainly reaches the very same oils within those
foods.

just to reiterate more specifically:

FOOD SOURCES OF OMEGA-3s

1) WALNUTS -
a) in the shell - dried at high temperature and sitting in storage for a
year or more
b) shelled - dried at high temperatures, nut flesh and omega 3 oils are
exposed to air, light, heat, stored for months

2) OMEGA-3 EGGS - fried or boiled at high temperatures that would easily
ruin flax and fish oil

2) FISH - cooking exposes to high temperatures that would certainly ruin
fish oil

3) GRASS FED MEAT/ORGANS - cooking exposes to high temperatures

4) HEMP NUT - shelled and exposed to air and temperature fluctuations for
long periods of time, even packages stress the importance of careful
refridgeration, but is this really enough to protect this altered food?

As a sidenote on flax and hemp seeds: nuts and seeds are not generally
meant to be eaten in their raw state without being soaked, sprouted, or
processed in some way due to nature's protective inhibitors within the flax
seed because they want those omega-3's! Is eating raw unprocessed nuts and
seeds really paleo or healthful? Do other mammals eat seeds before they are
soaked or germinated in some way?
