Yes, that is normal for 6 meters.

It may go for weeks at a time with some openings, especially in June and 
December. Then, you may go for weeks, even months, without anything other 
than local signals.

Then, one day with no warning, it suddenly opens again.

That's just one reason why 6 meters is often referred to as  "The Magic 
Band."
