There has been well documented research on the effect of switching to a
ketosis based diet and one that is most sited by people with a lack of
understanding and objections to low carb diets is the Canadian military
study. The Canadian army switched a group of soldiers to a pemmican diet
during winter servival exercises and the program was a dismal failure. The
resulting fatique left the force unable to maintain fight readiness and the
experiment was scrapped after a short duration.
The fatique and feelings of hunger are a transient experience that should
not last for more than a couple or three weeks. After the transition is
complete the feeling is really good. Wait a month and then try some
performance test like walking or running. You will be amazed at the
differance in energy levels, performance levels, and lack of exercise
related pain.
That being said. Follow the advice presented previously. Eat more fat! It
seems to me that newbies rarely eat enough fat. It is not uncommon for
people on this list to supplement our diets with tablespoons of oils (olive,
cod liver, fish, coconut, almond). I think that a tablespoon of oil is 9
grams of fat. Correct me if I am wrong!
Grains are not going to help the process and may undermine the whole benefit
model. That is a foundational element of a paleo diet. Even cheater don't
eat grains unless they want to get sick. Even the smallest portion (two or
three corn ships) make my joints ache.
