Hi Lowell;
I noticed that you are using the hf9v and since a new antenna is my spring
project I have questions. I have gone through two cushcraft r8 antennas
because of wind and I'm wondering how durable the antenna is? Do you use
any type of support ropes or is it self supporting. I have a tree and a few
other things in the middle of the yard so it will probably be on the garage
roof. Do you know if you can use both the counterpoise kit and the set of
pretuned radials?
How much trouble was it to tune? I looked at it on e-ham and a few of the
reviews weren't encouraging. What is the band width like on both 40 and 75?
I think that their literature suggests a 2/1 swr for 250 khz on 40 which
wouldn't be half bad. How narrow does it get on 75? Any info will help
make an informed decision. you can contact me off list at

Hello Jerry:
I am using a Butternut hf9v and have added a 160 MTR kit to make it 10
bands.
I have it ground mounted with radials just under the sod and they are of
randum lengths.
I have had great success with it on all bands.
I think you will find your antenna will work better on the ground rather
than on a tower; that's my opion.
If you have more questions, let me know.
