Colin,
I have an audible level made by Zircon. Got it (i think) from Independent
Living Aids in New york about 2 years ago. Paid around 30 bucks but has
been worth it. It's not designed for the blind and has a lcd screen and
arrows that figure and store angles and stuff. But it does put out a
steady tone when either held plumb or level. It's only 8 inches long but
can be strapped to a longer piece of something or other if needed.
Supposed to be accurate to 1/64 over 8 feet.
I don't know if this is in current production, but some of the places like
ILA may still carry it. Zircon also makes a stud finder that beeps and
includes an audible alarm if it senses a hot wire behind the wall. Got
this one at Home Depot.
There is another audible level from Colbalt in England, who also makes the
talking tape measure. I also have one of the tape measures, and while a
lot of money has also been worth it in the long run.
