Can the microphone be opened and filled with cotton to mitigate this?

its the same problem that is commonly heard on the FT897, and that is
the
fan noise.
Also, the area of the microphone where the microphone cartridge is
located
is very hollow so the acoustics are poor.
That said, its only really noticeable when mike gain is maxed and
compressor
is maxed, and even then, its not so bad.
The HF tx audio of the IC-7000 is, in my mind, very similar to the 746
audio
with just the hand mike. Extremely good and not tinny or thin at all.
Also, the true filtering options allow you to really do what you will
with
your tx audio.
