Chris,

You can have the radio scan for PL tones by pressing and holding the Tone
button until you hear a beep. When the radio finds a tone, you'll hear
another beep, at which point you press OK (also known as the high/low power
button). At this point, the PL has been entered into the VFO, and since it
is stored as a CTCSS tone, it will keep the receiver open. Depending on the
way the repeater is set up, you may also have to re-enter the PL into the
tone setting so you can turn CTCSS off. To do this, press Function followed
by the Tone button, and then press the speech button to read the PL tone
frequency. Then, press Function to cancel this operation. Press the Tone
button twice, then Function followed by Tone, and turn the Tuning knob until
you have matched the setting you previously read. Then, press OK.

After all this, you may conclude that it's easier to get a list of the tones
you want and manually enter them. It's also easier to enter them through
the software.

Steve
