I haven't done this myself yet, although I may give it a try sometime. Just
posted it as an addition to other methods mentioned over the years.
I think the shell should not be unscrewed and slid onto the cable as in
other methods, since you would not be able to slide it over the
solder/braid combo once you've soldered the braid to the rear of the
plug body.
Since the braid is trimmed to 1/4 inch, I don't think a tremendous amount
of solder is needed, or that it would be hard to do this solder job. Like
other things in life, practice should improve results. Also, the silver
plated connector is a factor in getting a good solder job.
