The r5 hasn't been available for ages. At my seaside
location I use an r8 which works superbly with the briny not
more than 100 yards away.

Subject: Re: HF VERTICAL ANTENNA

Fred, a ground mounted vertical will work about as well if
not better than one on a tower. Idon't know if the r5 is
made any more, but it tunes as a half wave, so a ground
system isn't necessary. Are any of your dipoles fed with
balanced line? If so a tuner will work. It doesn't help
the antenna, but the transmitter is happier.
