Go to EBay and buy a copy of Windows XP for about $60.

Do a complete re-format and maybe things will work better after you install 
a new copy of Win XP.  The $60 would be for home edition; if you need the XP 
Pro, I imagine it will be a bit more, probably around $110 or so.
