press enter (bottom righthand key to the left of the tuning 
knob).  You will get one beep.
then enter all five digits of the frequency, omitting trailing zeros.
8i.e. if you want 7.040 mhz enter 0 7 0 4, then press enter again.
be ware, my r5000 has a terrible problem with switch bouncing.  This 
results in double entry of a digit.
