you can get a used one for around that price, I see TS-450 and TS-440 and TS
140s around that price range all the time and even first generation Icom
706's and the IC-718, when you can find one used, is generally under %600
and that's a current model and a very good one. I had one for a couple weeks
but the deal went bad on the other end and I had to send it back. I hated to
do it though and I actually know a lot of people with them for backup radios
and go kit radios that say they have no plans to part with them, so anyway,
there are radios in that price range and if you don't need the voice chip
there are tons more. The icom radios mentioned here though don't have a
built in tuner, you'd have to get an LDG100 or the like but even them, used
they're not too bad. I got mine new that I have in my go kit. I see them
used all the time though.
