Hi All, In 1992 I swapped a fellow out of what he said was an Icom IC02at.
It was a ten channel radio with 138-174 transmit and receive, took the
standard bp3/et all icom batteries and Icom trickle charger, the Icom
speakermic etc, but the thing had not only a front keyboard, but a channel
or vfo click step tuning knob on top along with the vol and squelsh knobs
and standard switches. The thing, as I remember it, was very similar in
feel to the radioshack htx202, but it would indeed cross the 138-174 freq
range, and of course the htx202 won't do this.
Unfortunately my economics, or lack of them at the time, dictated the
quick sale of the radio, but later when I was given another ic02at, it was
configured the same, but had no tuning knob on the top. I've run across and
felt a couple of other 02ats, and none of them have had a tuning knob.
Unfortunately, the guy I got it from said it was indeed a 02at, the fellow
who bought it from me is out of pocket and has been for ten years, so he's
no help, but I would really like to find out what that radio really was, as
I'd like to have another one. A big brick, but pretty simple to program,
and with the public service and wx freqs, a pretty nice and handy radio. If
any of you can give me any help in this, I'd appreciate it. I've sent a
note to the elmers at eham group and asked several other folks who should
have been able to help me figure out what indeed this was and is, but so far
I've drawn a blank. It's as if I never owned such a thing, sort of like a
"twilight zone" handytalky, but it was real, honest!!!! I really had one in
my hands and programmed and talked on the thing, and I was wide
awake........well as much as I ever am, Thanks for your help, Danny Dyer,
Wb4idu in Radio la la land hi hi.
